I have spent more than one moment thinking of spending my time underwater, observing nature in one of its finest forms. Yes, snorkeling, what an incredible opportunity to observe marine life and to spend time in a peaceful and serene setting.
If you find yourself wanting to get out and do something different, putting on a wetsuit, flippers, and snorkeling gear might just be the activity you need in your life.
Where can I go snorkeling though!?
Well I’m glad you asked! Goat Island Marine Reserve, located in Leigh, provides a sheltered marine reserve where anyone is free to jump into the water and swim with the fish.

The best way to observe a fish is to become a fish.

I didn’t see a huge variety of ocean life on my first time diving, however there were plenty of fish in the sea! Hehe! There were many snapper, and I must say, they were extremely friendly. I imagine the fish being so friendly certainly has something to do with the area being a marine reserve, and so they’ve likely learned that humans do not equal danger. Nevertheless, it made for an easy time capturing footage of them.
Some marine life species I did spot include:
- Snapper
- Eagle Ray
- Red Moki
- Sand Octopus
- Kina (Sea Urchin)
